• Open-sky subdivisions: often nothing. Newer neighborhoods in Leland with young landscaping frequently don't need guards yet. We'll say so — a cleaning schedule beats an unnecessary product every time.

What guards honestly do and don't do

Do: end the quarterly ladder ritual, keep downspouts from packing solid mid-storm, and protect the gutters themselves from the standing-water weight that pulls runs out of pitch. Don't: eliminate maintenance forever — even the best mesh wants an annual brush-off where pollen and grit film builds. Anyone promising "never think about your gutters again" is selling the warranty, not the physics. Budget-wise, most guard jobs here land between $1,000 and $4,000 depending on footage and mesh class, on top of (or bundled with) any gutter work the runs need first — guards over failing gutters just preserve the failure.
